The Governing Body works closely with the Headteacher and school staff, and it is responsible for: setting objectives for the school; monitoring performance; appointment of staff; management of the finances and buildings; deciding the school’s policies; ensuring equality of opportunity for all; dealing with complaints; and promoting the school within the local community. The 2009 Ofsted inspection judged our Governing Body as Good. They said,“The work of the governing body has underpinned that of managers and the Local Authority. Together they have developed an ambitious, determined and increasingly successful vision for the school’s future development. There are several different categories of governors: parent and staff governors are elected from their respective groups; community governors are elected by the Governing Body for their particular skills and knowledge; and Local Authority governors are appointed by a panel of local councilors. Within our Governing Body, we are fortunate to have a wide range of skills and experience, from local business leaders to members of the local community, each bringing individual specialisms such as IT, finance, HR, education, and knowledge of the area. The Governing Body’s goal is for Kingsbrook to be judged Outstanding by Ofsted. With all our efforts this can be achieved. So why be a School Governor? Satisfaction, pride in the school, and a great sense of achievement – that’s why! But also knowing that we, as School Governors, can make a real difference to Kingsbrook and give our young people the education they deserve.
